Description: With panoramic
views of the Severn River and downtown Historic Annapolis,
this project includes a redesign of Gate No. One and
the boulevard leading to and including the landscape
surrounding the new Visitor Center. The waterfront promenade
is a key feature of the streetscape design as the centerline
of the roadway was realigned to focus the visitors
view on the waters edge and the breathtaking views
across Spa Creek. A large portion of the Visitor Center
landscape, including full-sized shade trees, is actually
on-structure landscape that rests on a significant wooden
pier that was installed in the 1950s.
Rich custom granite bollards, ornamental
metal promenade railings, and a compass rose set into
the paving pattern provide animation and authenticity
to the nautical character of the Naval Academys
grounds.
