Description: As part of the inter-disciplinary design team working on the multi-million dollar expansion of the BWI terminal and parking garage, O’Doherty Group Landscape Architecture is redeveloping the pedestrian access and egress design, expanding the Chesapeake Bay Garden, enhancing the entry and exit streetscapes, and creating the interior landscape for the new Southwest Airlines Terminal. The design concept evokes a strong sense of place by emulating the flora of the bay with large sweeps of grasses. Abstract sculptures of geese have been introduced to further animate the environment. The concept of celebrating the unique character of the Chesapeake Bay has been continued into the interior of the new terminal. Pedestrian-friendly spaces evoking the character of the region make the BWI garden a memorable visitor experience.
