Clarksburg Town Center, Clubhouse, and Sinequa Square Park
Location: Clarksburg, Maryland
Description: Amid the proposed neo-traditional town of Clarksburg, O’Doherty Group Landscape Architecture designed key elements of the overall development, the Town Center, the clubhouse grounds to include a pool, and the public-square park fronting the clubhouse.
The Town Center consists of 17 acres laid out in a neo-traditional style with walkable streetscapes, sidewalk cafes, a cobbled mews street, a town green, a library plaza, and a market square. Several different styles of retail and housing are found in the Town Center required that each street be designed with its own unique streetscape characteristics. Water quality was an important facet of the design for which we and the civil engineer incorporated pervious pavers, soil cell structures to direct roof run off to trees and lawn, and below grade recharge facilities.
At the clubhouse, site detailing was carefully thought out to compliment the clubhouses’ Arts and Craft style. Subsequent to the installation, a portion of the design was reworked to incorporate regulation size swim lanes, a pool slide, a fire pit, and an additional to the building. The challenge in designing the adjacent park was the twelve-foot grade change. An elegant solution was to incorporate an outdoor amphitheater with lawn stage and seat walls for summer performances.
